Investigation on the uncertain factors of the elastic–plastic contact characteristics of the planetary roller screw mechanism

Abstract: The scatter of uncertain factors of the planetary roller screw mechanism, which originated from the manufacturing process, has a significant influence on its serving performance. However, this influence remains insufficiently studied. Further, the elastic–plastic contact analysis of the planetary roller screw mechanism with considering the uncertainties needs large numbers of repetitive calculations by traditional finite element method, which is labor intensive and often impractical. In this paper, an uncertai… Show more

“…Based on the elastic contact deformation, Yao et al, 55 Ma et al, 56 Fu et al 57 derived the influence of different parameters on the motion performance with deformation errors, which are contact characteristics, working loads, preload and inertia forces of PRSM. However, radial loads were not considered in any of the above literature.…”

“…Similarly, the optimal grinding angle on the screw-roller interface is 0.014°. According to the study Yao et al (2019), the load-carrying capacity of the screw-roller interface is much lower than that of the nut-roller interface, and the screw-roller interface is generally more prone to failure. Therefore, load distribution on the screw-roller interface should be guaranteed as a priority.…”

“…The calculation method was verified by the interference analysis of a virtual assembly model in SolidWorks. Over the following year, Yao et al 36 further proposed a mathematic model to investigate the impact of uncertainties including geometry structure, material parameters, and axial loads on the contact characteristics. The elastic–plastic contact characteristic was obtained automatically by the iterative finite element method.…”
