Investigation on Reinforced Mechanism of Fiber Reinforced Asphalt Concrete Based on Micromechanical Modeling

Abstract: Short fibers have been widely used to prepare the fiber reinforced asphalt concrete (FRAC). However, internal interactions between fiber and other phases of asphalt concrete are unclear although experimental methods have been used to design the FRAC successfully. In this paper, numerical method was used to investigate the reinforced mechanism of FRAC from microperspective. 2D micromechanical model of FRAC was established based on Monte Carlo theory. Effects of fiber length and content on stress state of asphal… Show more

“…Pavement performance model on which the impact of stiffness modulus of the surfacing layer will be tested in the following case study is based on three major studies: Penetration (mm · 10 -1 ) Figure 5: Relationship between penetration and stiffness modulus for all mixtures at a temperature of 20°C. 6 Advances in Materials Science and Engineering Riley and Bennet [5], which is based on Paterson [22], Watanada et al [23], and NDLI [24]. e final model is described in [5] but was further amended to fix further issues mostly by LCPC, TRL, Riley Partnership, ARRB, and UoB.…”

“…Aggregate and fillers used into the individual mixtures are described in Table 2. Cellulose fibres were added in SMA 11 and AC 11; this is a common practice as fibres are shown to reduce the stress level of asphalt mortar significantly [6].…”

“…The most important factors that may affect the creep rate of composites are the fiber length, weight ratio, interaction with the matrix inside the composites, temperature, humidity, and the level of stress applied to the composite. Increasing the fiber content and the interfacial interaction between fibers and the matrix reduces the creep rate [39]. One of the challenges of replacing metals with thermoplastics is that many structural parts need to be rigid and provide high impact strength and low creep rate.…”

“…29 The percentage of nano-zeolite content was 1 % and 2 % by weight of dry aggregates combined with asphalt binder by a mechanical mixture machine. 30 The synthetic nanozeolite used in this study was provided from the Pouyan Exir industrial company in Tehran, Iran. The characteristics of nano-zeolite are shown in Table 4.…”
