Investigation on Probable Association Between IL-13, IL-13RA1, and IL-13RA2 Genes Polymorphism and Pulmonary Tuberculosis

Abstract: Our study aimed to explore the association of IL-13, IL-13RA1, and IL-13RA2 genes polymorphisms with PTB susceptibility and its clinical features. Methods: Nine SNPs were genotyped by improved multiple ligase detection reaction (iMLDR) in 476 PTB patients and 473 controls. The association between these SNPs and PTB risk was analyzed using SPSS software and haplotype analysis was assessed using SHEsis software. Results:The IL-13RA1 rs2495636 GA genotype frequency in PTB patients was significantly decreased, and… Show more

“…found that rs7041 and rs3733359 variants in the GC gene were statistically associated with pulmonary infection and fever in patients with PTB ( 32 ). Our previous study demonstrated that the IL-13RA1 rs2495636 polymorphism was related to pulmonary infection and drug resistance, and rs3795175 and rs638376 variants in IL-13RA2 were associated with drug resistance among patients with PTB ( 10 ). Analogously, this study revealed a significant association between the IL-27 rs17855750 GG genotype and fever.…”

“…Notably, genetic variations in several immune-related genes were shown to affect the degree of host resistance to MTB infection, disease severity, and drug resistance ( 7 , 8 ). Previous studies found that polymorphisms in interleukin (IL)-13 , IL-13RA1 , IL-13RA2 , and IL-23R genes were involved in the genetic background of PTB and some clinical features in a Chinese Han population ( 9 , 10 ). Therefore, it was of great significance to further clarify the effects of immune-related gene genetic variations in PTB.…”

“…A large number of tuberculosis susceptibility genes have been recognized and polymorphisms in these genes have been proposed as risk factors for TB (Bahari et al, 2013;Naderi et al, 2014;Hashemi et al, 2015;Kim et al, 2021;Li et al, 2022). The ACE gene, an important component of the RAS, is one of the candidate genes for TB (Kwon et al, 2007;Zhang et al, 2014).…”

“…Only about 5-10% infected cases will develop active TB (Taheri et al, 2020;Wu et al, 2020), which proposes a key role of genetic factors in host immunity. Until now, various genes have been recognized as TB candidate genes and variants in these genes have been proposed as risk factors for the disease (Naderi et al, 2014;Taheri et al, 2019;Li et al, 2022).…”

“…Nevertheless, a third group using the same humanized model, although they did not register increased pulmonary damage, found increased bacterial burden and augmented expression of IL-13 in animals coinfected with M. tuberculosis and SARS-CoV-2 [ 223 ]. What is interesting about this last finding is that overexpression of IL-13 has been linked to increased tuberculosis susceptibility in a B6 mice model [ 224 ], while, in humans, some polymorphisms of IL-13 genes have been associated also with increased susceptibility to the disease [ 225 ].…”
