Investigation on MIMO channels in subway tunnels

Abstract: different antenna spacings and orientations in an indoor scenario. The maximum capacity was achieved when the broadside directions of the arrays were facing each other, and a 4-b/s/Hz mean capacity loss was measured when the perpendicular orientation was selected. The antenna separation of 2 gave the highest capacity values, although was found to be enough at certain distances. The correlation was only 0.04 smaller for 2, compared to . Finally, capacity was found to decrease with distance d at short-range dist… Show more

“…Therefore, a SNR higher than 10 dB is guaranteed so the noise does not mask the results. The correlation coefficient at each frequency between a pair of antennas of the array is computed as in [30]. With regard to SNR in (1), two cases can be considered.…”

“…Let us simply mention that the results cover a wide area of environment and applications, starting from mine galleries (Lienard & Degauque, 2000a;Zhang et al, 2001;Boutin et al 2008), road and railway tunnels (Lienard et al, 2003;Lienard et al, 2004), pedestrian tunnels (Molina-Garcia-Pardo et al, 2004), etc. We have thus preferred to select one or two scenarios throughout this chapter in order to clearly identify the main features of the propagation phenomena and their impact on the optimization of the transmission scheme.…”

“…14, between two stations, Quai Lilas and Quai Haxo, 600 m apart (Lienard et al, 2003). The geometrical configuration can be divided into two parts: Firstly, there is a two-track tunnel that exhibits a significant curve along 200 m, from Lilas (point A) to point B, and then the tunnel is straight from point B to point D (100 m apart).…”

“…They found out that the antennas alignment is an important parameter. For a constant SNR of 10 dB, the capacity of a SISO and a 4 × 4 MIMO are 3 bits/s/Hz and 8 bits/s/Hz, respectively [13]. A modal theory is used to analyze the MIMO wireless channel.…”
