Investigation on fretting wear behavior of 690 alloy in water under various temperatures

Abstract: The aim of this paper is to assess the effect of water temperature (room temperature -RT, 60 ℃ and 90 ℃) on fretting wear behavior of 690 alloy tubes against 405 stainless steel plates, and compare it with fretting in dry condition. Due to the lubrication effect, the presence of a thin water film likely precluded the metal-metal contact, and resulted in less wear. During the fretting process, water also washed the wear particles away from the contact zone leading to a decrease of abrasive wear. Consequently, t… Show more

“…However, the wear track of 2Hz is surrounded by an accumulation of loose debris, with pockets of debris trapped within the contact region. Additionally, some cracks and delamination occurs on the wear scar, so the wear mechanism is abrasive wear [21]. Meanwhile, the tribochemical reaction is easy to occur at the friction interface due to the high chemical reactivity of DU and long-time contact with air.…”

“…In acid solution, wire surface wear is similar to "pickling and polishing". Coupled roles of solution medium and SO 4 2lubricating film cause the good lubrication at the fretting contact surface, and thereby induce a smaller maximum tangential force and a larger relative slip [21,22]. In the case of deionized water, it presents the worse lubrication and no electrolyte ion effect as compared to the case of acid solution, which indicates a larger maximum tangential force and a smaller relative slip.…”

“…The erasure process of the imperfect flat surface resulted in the initial stage with the low and slowly increasing values of COFs. This stage is also called the run-in stage [9]. (2) Sharply increasing stage (50 < N < 200): as the removal of the adsorption products or oxide films after certain cycles, direct contact of the fretting pairs happens (metal-to-metal contact) and result in the stick phenomenon, hence the COFs increase sharply.…”

“…Therefore, for SG tubes, fretting corrosion is ineluctable and it can result in tube thinning or even leak of radioactive substances [5]. Plenty of researchers have focused on the fretting wear behavior of Alloy 690TT alloy between various materials [6][7][8][9][10]. It is doubtless that mechanical parameters, including displacement amplitude [11,12], normal force [13,14] and frequency [15,16] are crucial factors affecting the fretting wear process.…”
