Investigation of Through-Thickness Stresses in Composite Laminates Using Layerwise Theory

Abstract: In this study, an analytical method is developed to exactly obtain the interlaminar stresses near the free edges of laminated composite plates under the bending moment based on the reduced form of elasticity displacement field for a long laminate. The analytical and numerical studies were performed based on the Reddy's layerwise theory for the boundary layer stresses within cross-ply, symmetric, angle-ply, and general composite laminates. Finally, a variety of numerical results are presented for the interlamin… Show more

“…Pursuing efforts on the localisation issue, Naghaspour et al [197][198][199][200][201] proposed the use of electric potential measurement (EPM). The authors mapped the whole surface of a CFEP with 0.3 wt % CNT in the matrix with electrodes and continuously measured the change of resistance between each pair of electrodes.…”

“…Many investigations on the development of analytical solutions were performed for composite structures, while no analytical solution has existed to analyze nanotube composite structures [7][8][9][10]. Among these, the theory of nonlocal continuum mechanics introduced by Eringen [11][12][13] has been extensively employed in nano-mechanics to monitor the nonlocal effects.…”

“…The vast majority of structural theories are derived using the constitutive assumptions that the stress at a point depends only on the strain at that point. Many investigations were made on the development of analytical solutions to analyse the composite structures [3,4] while it remains to be observed whether these solutions can be applied to make analyses for nanostructures. Continuum based analyses have been generally utilized for the formulation of different nanostructures.…”
