Investigation of three‐body wear behavior and hardness of experimental titanium alloys for dental applications in oral environment

Abstract: The aim of this study was to investigate the three‐body wear resistance and hardness of commercially pure titanium and titanium alloys containing zirconium and tantalum (cp‐Ti, Ti‐5Zr and Ti‐5Ta). Each titanium test group, were subjected to wear tests under 105 wear cycles, 50 N mechanical force, 2.0 Hz wear frequency, 6 mm diameter Al2O3 antagonist ball, 5 °C/55 °C thermal change conditions immersed in poppy seed slurry as third‐body medium. The mean wear volume loss and depth of all test specimens after the … Show more

“…In our study, Katana Avencia, a composite block was analyzed. This study analyzed marginal fit, nevertheless, it has to be reminded that mechanical properties shall be always considered, being CCBs affected by monomer compositions, especially if specific types of monomers are contained (e.g., TEGDMA) [ 56 , 57 , 58 , 59 ].…”

“…The test samples were commercially produced from Ti, Zr, and Ta sections with about 99% purity in sheet form. These test samples were previously tested in chewing tests in a different study [20]. Within the scope of this study, Bruxism chewing tests were performed in an area outside the wear area.…”

“…In three body wear, there is presence of an external agent between two body participating in the abrasion. In resin chemistry, structure of ingredient bisphenol A-glycidyl methacrylate (Bis-GMA) and triethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA) plays significant role in the mechanical and wear performance of dental composite [62][63][64]. Since complete polymerization (100%) i.e.…”
