Investigation of the use of the acoustic effect in extinguishing fires of oil and petroleum products

Abstract: This paper discusses the use of an acoustic effect and technique to extinguish flames when extinguishing fires of oil and petroleum products. The added value is also to analyze the development prospects to familiarize the reader with the current state of knowledge in the use of acoustic waves for extinguishing of oil and petroleum products. Some types and conditions of using the acoustic effect when extinguishing a fire are considered. Various options for using the acoustic effect in fire extinguishers are sho… Show more

“…This environmentally friendly technology may potentially serve as a supplementary method of fire safety, such as installing the system permanently in areas susceptible to fires. The application of acoustic waves can be used to limit the spread of fire, including the ability to control the flames and the combustion process [61]- [66].…”

“…This makes it possible to compensate for the losses resulting from the omnidirectional emission of the acoustic extinguisher, which affect the reducing of the distance to which effective flame extinguishing through acoustic waves has been observed. It is stated that in addition to improving fire-extinguishing methods in firefighting, it is also important to produce fire-resistant materials, which is the focus of many institutions and research centers [ 118 , 119 , 120 , 121 , 122 ]. These materials prevent the fire from spreading, creating a phenomenon that helps extinguish the fire.…”

“…Most existing studies have reviewed the possibilities from a relatively low/narrow perspective, rather than considering a comprehensive view of the technology. Vovchuk et al [17] suggested that sound waves can be used effectively to extinguish fires in petroleum and petroleum products and can be used in future development of robots for fire suppression at construction sites. Pięta et al [18] used a smart Internet of Things (IoT)-based multi-domain model to simulate tourist behavior and congestion avoidance in a theme park.…”
