Investigation of the production of cobalt-60 via particle accelerator

Abstract: De part ment of Phys ics, Bulent Ecevit Uni ver sity, Zonguldak, Tur key Sci en tific pa per http://doi.org/10.2298/NTRP1704327AThe pro duc tion pro cess of co balt-60 was sim u lated by a par ti cle ac cel er a tor in the en ergy range of 5 to 100 MeV, par ti cle beam cur rent of 1 mA, and ir ra di a tion time of 1 hour to perform yield, ac tiv ity of re ac tion, and in te gral yield for charged par ti cle-in duced re ac tions. Based on nu clear re ac tion pro cesses, the ob tained re sults in the pro duc tio… Show more

“…The structure and properties of nuclei have been explained by nuclear structure [1][2][3][4][5][6] and reaction theories [7][8][9][10][11][12] such as Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) approach for the determination of nuclear properties of spherical nuclei, e.g., the root mean square (rms) charge, proton, neutron radii and the binding energies [1][2][3][4][5]. For accurate determination of nuclear structure and properties of nuclei, many force interactions such as SKM*, SLY4, DS1 etc.…”

“…Par ti cle ac cel er a tors and nu clear re ac tors are com monly used in in dus trial, med i cal, and space ap plica tions, such as med i cal ra dio iso tope pro duc tion in nuclear med i cine [1][2][3][4], en ergy pro duc tion in nu clear power plants, and heat en ergy and elec tric ity pro duction in the ra dio iso tope ther mo elec tric gen er a tors (RTG) of space craft and space probes [5][6][7]. The shielding of par ti cle ac cel er a tors and nu clear re ac tors is impor tant for the safety of hu man health and en vi ron ment.…”

“…The program can also cal cu late for new com pounds and mixtures pre pared by the user, us ing just their chem i cal for mu lae. The pre vi ous ver sion of X-PMSP has ef fectively been used for yield cal cu la tions of nu clear re actions in the pro duc tion of med i cal ra dio iso topes used in PET [1], ra di a tion ther apy, and ra dio iso tope produc tion us ing par ti cle ac cel er a tor [2,3,6,7]. Therefore, in this work, we ex panded the use of the X-PMSP pro gram for the cal cu la tions for com pounds and mixtures via two meth ods.…”
