“…74 Measurements from JET experiments in recent years indicate that the gamma-ray diagnostics work well, but further substantial improvement of the diagnostics is proposed for measurements in highperformance D and D-T discharges to demonstrate the capabilities of gamma-ray diagnostics for burning plasma physics in future reactors. In particular, the development of gamma-ray spectrometers based on fast heavy scintillators and of a data acquisition system with fast digitizers 78 and the installation of the efficient neutron attenuators 79 has been proposed. The main goals of this project are improving the energy and temporal resolution of the diagnostics and reducing the gamma-ray background.…”

“…The presence of the 4.44-MeV peak in γ-ray spectra is evidence for the existence of alphas with energies that exceed 1.7 MeV. These measurements also indicate a surprisingly high level of the γ-ray emission from the reaction 12 C(d,pγ) 13 C meaning that some ICRH power was absorbed by deuterons at the third harmonic D-resonance, which coincides with the 3 rd harmonic 4 He-resonance. The fast D-ions give rise to 3.09-MeV γ-rays from the reaction 12 C(d,pγ) 13 C. A peak at 3.09 MeV in recorded spectra reflects the presence in the plasma of fast D-ions with energies exceeding 0.5 MeV.…”

“…It does not produce interfering γ-rays in the high-energy range. A 30-cm sample of the 6 LiH-filter reduces 2.4-MeV neutron flux ∼900 times and the 15-MeV neutron flux ∼30 times [13].…”

“…It does not produce interfering -rays in the high-energy range. A 30-cm sample of the 6 LiH-filter reduces 2.5-MeV neutron flux 900 times and the 15-MeV neutron flux 30 times [14]. The attenuator has been tested in JET experiments with deuterium plasmas [15].…”
