Abstract:Vaccinia virus C7 protein is an important host-range factor for the vaccinia virus life cycle in mammalian cells. Type I IFN plays an important role in host defense of viral infection. However, the role of C7 in immune modulation of the IFN pathway is unclear. Here, we find that C7 functions as a dual inhibitor of IFN production and IFN signaling by interfering with the activation of two transcription factors IRF3 and STAT2. Furthermore, vaccinia virus with deletion of C7 (VACVΔC7L) is non-pathogenic in wild-t… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
