Investigation of the effect of mesoporous diatomaceous earth particles on RATRP of styrene and butyl acrylate

Abstract: Mesoporous diatomite nanoplatelets were employed to prepare various poly (styrene-co-butyl acrylate)/diatomite nanocomposites by in situ reverse atom transfer radical polymerization of styrene and butyl acrylate. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherm were employed for evaluating some properties of the pristine diatomite nanoplatelets. Evaluation of pore size distribution and morphological studies were also performed by scanning an… Show more

“…15–23 The electrically conductive polymers as well as their nanocomposites having different nanoparticles are utilized for the synthesis of semiconductor, lightweight batteries, sensors, and shielding materials. 2427 The absorption of microwaves and EMI shielding characteristics of the electrically conducting polymers 28,29 can be described in a relation to high electrical conductivity as well as strong relaxation with polarization effects due to the existence of bound or localized charges. 30,31 Polyaniline has a unique position among all conductive polymers due to its high electrical conductivity excellent stability in the environment, non-redox doping, and cost-effectiveness.…”

“…These parameters should be also considered since decrease in M n and increment of PDI values may cause reduction of T g values. 44,46 Previous studies indicate that T g values can be changed by the addition of low volume of different nano-fillers. 4749 Reduction of T g value by incorporating alumina nanoparticles as a nano-fillers was also reported by Ash et al 49…”

“…Similar conclusions are also achieved in the case of polymer/clay nanocomposites. 27,28 According to the DTG curves, a shoulder in the final degradation step has occurred which can be attributed to the MMA segments of the copolymer. In the case of MMA, head-to-head linkages, chain unsaturation, and random scission can be achieved; therefore, its thermogram reveals several degradation steps.…”
