Investigation of the Domain Structure of NdFe11Ti and NdFe11TiNx

Abstract: By means of the magneto-optical Kerr effect the domain structure of NdFellTi and NdFellTiN, is investigated. From the mean domain width the domain wall energy y' and the critical diameter of the single domain particle D, are calculated to be y' = 6.37 x J/cm2, D, = 0.12 pm for NdFellTi and y' = 19.8 x J/cm2, D, = 0.255 pm for NdFellTiN.

“…Numerous studies point to the presence of free iron in alloys with RFe 12−x M x composition, however, descriptions of RFe 11 Ti microstructures are extremely limited [13][14][15][16][17][18]; reports on the magnetic domain configurations are rare [19][20][21][22]; and to the authors' best knowledge YFe 11 Ti has not yet been investigated. In addition few direct observations have been carried out for the rest of the whole class of RT 12−x M x compounds [23,24].…”
