Investigation of the convergent validity and reliability of unit position differences of Catapult S5 GPS units in field conditions

Abstract: This research aimed to examine the validity and reliability of GPS units located in different positions. Nine recreational soccer players (age: 23.18 ± 2.21 years; height: 176 ± 7.65 cm; and body mass: 71.13 ± 4.67 kg) participated voluntarily in the current study. Athletes were tested through the team sports simulation cycle (TSSC) protocol. This protocol consisted of a total of 1200 m. Each lap consisted of a distance of 150 m, and the athletes were asked to perform eight laps. Two GPS units (OptimEye S5; Ca… Show more

“…One Way ANOVA with Bonferroni post hoc test was used to compare differences between the different sessions and the two separate GPS watches. Percentage coefficients of variation (%CV) were calculated using the formula standard error of mean/mean*100 [ 26 , 27 ]. CV% and SWC tests were used to measure the intra-GPS watch's reliability of the data.…”

“…Summary metrics using proprietary algorithms, based on the previously mentioned movement characteristics, are used to acquire a general idea of the total workload achieved during a training session or competition. Based on the software and manufacturer, such summary metrics are often referred to as total player load, accumulated acceleration load (AAL), or mechanical load (1,41). However, these summary metrics have previously received some criticism, largely stemming from the fact that they report workload in arbitrary units, making it difficult to interpret data, especially if different systems and technologies are being used to quantify external workload (14).…”
