Investigation of the antimicrobial activity and hematological pattern of nano-chitosan and its nano-copper composite

Abstract: Novel synthesized Chitosan–Copper oxide nanocomposite (Cs–CuO) was prepared using pomegranate peels extract as green precipitating agents to improve the biological activity of Cs-NP's, which was synthesized through the ionic gelation method. The characterization of biogenic nanoparticles Cs-NP's and Cs–CuO-NP's was investigated structurally, morphologically to determine all the significant characters of those nanoparticles. Antimicrobial activity was tested for both Cs-NP's and Cs–CuO-NP's via minimum inhibiti… Show more

“…The aspect of these aggregated is in agreement with data reported in literature and could be correlated with similar sampledrying procedure, similar polymer molecular weight (MW) and similar deacetylation (DA) degree [67,68]. In fact, it was reported that bare CS NPs prepared by ionotropic gelation strategy and using CS with similar physical properties (MW and DA), showed the same shape (spherical) and the similar tendency to form similar necklace-shaped aggregates [68][69][70][71][72][73][74].…”

“…Aliasghari et al 81 reported that the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of CNPs for four strains of Streptococcus was ranged from 1.25 to 2.5 mg/mL. Similarly, CNPs have a bactericidal effect against seven bacterial strains at concentrations various from 0.125 to 5 mg/mL 77 .…”

“…In agreement with other investigations, our results showed that CNPs inhibit the growth of Pectobacterium carotovorum with a diameter of 19 mm. Ahmed et al 77 reported that the CNPs inhibit the growth of four isolates of gram- positive ( Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis ) and gram-negative bacteria ( Escherichia coli , Pseudomonas aeruginosa ) with a diameter range from 9 to 16 mm. In another study by Divya et al 78 , they reported that the diameter of the inhibition zone produced by CNPs against klebsiella pneumoniae , Staphylococcus aureus , Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli ranged between 12 and 16 mm.…”

“…Chitosan is an active biopolymer that has inherent antibactericidal activity shown previously. 9 11 , 57a The synergic effect of α-MSH and chitosan in chitosan-cholesterol α-MSH nanoconjugates was so significant that we could hardly see any bacterial colony. Even in the lowest possible (i.e., picomolar) concentration, the efficiency of the inhibition of bacterial growth was about 40%, which indicates the true potential of the developed polymer–drug nanoconjugates.…”

“…4,5 This AMP-based cellular destruction of organism method has been gaining popularity, and chemical/structural modification over native AMP has ensured better efficacy and enhanced stability inside the cellular environment. Alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH) is an endogenous neuropeptide with linear tridecapeptides (Ac-Ser 1 -Tyr 2 -Ser 3 -Met 4 -Glu 5 -His 6 -Phe 7 -Arg 8 -Trp 9 -Gly 10 -Lys 11 -Pro 12 -Val 13 -NH 2 ) that results from the cleavage of its precursor polypeptide pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC). 6 Besides its melanogenic properties, it is also known for its antipyretic and anti-inflammatory effects.…”
