Investigation of the Anthropometric Changes in Breast Volume and Measurements After Breast Reduction

Abstract: Objective This study aims to compare breast volume changes and other anthropometric measurements by using before and after breast reduction pictures of women who underwent breast reduction operation in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery clinic and by performing measurements from the anatomic points indicated in the literature. Background Landmarks (previously identified as anatomic points) that show the success of breast reduction operation are not sufficient. Anthropometric po… Show more

“…Besides, the thoracic wall mobility during respiration can oscillate, not only among individuals but also in one same individual for measurements taken at different times 4,12 . The need of developing a method that could minimize such changes caused by the thorax wall mobility has led Quieregatto et al 13 to determine, based on the studies by Penn 7 , Smith et al 8 and Weistrech 4 , points in the thorax, according to anthropometric and anatomic points, which could allow standardized breast measurements 16 . The best applicability of indirect anthropometry compared to direct anthropometry has been discussed by the authors in previous studies.…”

“…Moreover, the shape of the cup should take into consideration. 12,[17][18][19][20] Three-dimensional (3D) shape becomes a crucial issue in fashion design. 21 Generally, there are two types of methods for creating 3D shapes of apparel; the physical-based method and the thermal-based method.…”
