Investigation of solubilized carbon nanotubes in optical limitation

Abstract: The optical limiting effect of solubilized carbon nanotubes on 1064 and 532nm laser is studied in experiment. The experiments are carried out with samples of different thickness and concentration, and the optical limiting experiments are also carried out with pure solvent (chloroform) in order to confirm that the opt ical limiting effect is due to carbon nanotubes. The results showed that the sol ubilized carbon nanotubes have good optical limiting characters to both 1064 and 532nm laser.

“…Researchers have been trying their best to find an ideal optical limiting material: high linear transmittance, low limiting threshold, fast switching time and broadband response. Among widely investigated materials for optical limiting were studied such as nematic liquid crystals, [1] porphyrins molecules, [2] metal nanowires, [3] carbon bisulfide, [4] carbon nanotubes [5,6] and so on. But these materials cannot be obtained easily or their preparation procedures are very complex, so they may not be widely used in optical limiting field.…”
