Investigation of photon emission spectra of hydrogen using intense subpicosecond Ti:sapphire/Nd:glass laser pulses

Abstract: High-harmonic generation processes have been experimentally investigated in molecular hydrogen gas as both molecular dissociation and ionization occur in the gas. The high harmonics observed in our experiment can be mainly attributed to neutral hydrogen molecules. Besides the harmonic spectra, two strong Lyman lines from the dissociated hydrogen atoms and the emission from the neutral hydrogen molecules are observed. Several possible excitation and dissociation channels of hydrogen molecules are proposed. It i… Show more

“…It could be due to the following effects. First, the additional dissociation channels in a molecule would reduce the harmonic yields (Liang et al 1995). In the multiphoton regime, an electron in the ground state is pumped into the continuum by a strong laser field.…”

“…High-order HG in molecular gases is a relatively new field of research (Liang et al 1995, Lynga et al 1996 as well as in clusters and surfaces (Donnelly et al 1996, Dobosz 0953-4075/98/184243+13$19.50 c 1998IOP Publishing Ltd et al 1997. The HG cut-off law is now well understood to be the consequence of the laserinduced recollision of the ionized electron with the parent ion (Corkum 1993, Krause et al 1992, Watson et al 1997.…”

“…It is recorded by using a CCD camera with an array of 165V × 192H points in the vertical (V) and horizontal (H) direction, respectively. For further details of the experimental set-up we refer to [33,34]. An example of the radiation spectrum taken by the CCD camera is shown in figure 2 (upper panel), the horizontal direction corresponds to the wavelength axis.…”
