Investigation of periodically driven systems by x-ray absorption spectroscopy using asynchronous data collection mode

Abstract: We report the development, testing, and demonstration of a setup for modulation excitation spectroscopy experiments at the Inner Shell Spectroscopy beamline of National Synchrotron Light Source - II. A computer algorithm and dedicated software were developed for asynchronous data processing and analysis. We demonstrate the reconstruction of X-ray absorption spectra for different time points within the modulation pulse using a model system. This setup and the software are intended for a broad range of functiona… Show more

“…In pristine LTO, tetrahedral 8 a sites are believed to be occupied by Li + ions, while the octahedral 16 d sites are randomly occupied by Li + and Ti 4+ ions with a 1:5 ratio [26]. Since Li + ions migrate through the LTO lattice via tetrahedral/octahedral sites, the occupancy of these sites by dopants should have an important effect on Li ion transport and thus electrochemical properties of LTO electrodes [8,9,11,27]. For example, the doping on the tetrahedral (8 a ) site is expected to be detrimental for Li ion conductivity due to the blocking of Li ion diffusion pathways [13].…”

“…106 In another example, 1at.% doped Mn in lithium titanate showed ~ 20 % change in the electrochemical performance due to Mn 2+ occupation in tetrahedral (8a) sites. 107 Furthermore, various charge transfer pathways in such sophisticated designed systems such as mediator-induced interfacial charge transfer 108,109 can be probed by synchrotron radiation-based technologies as it has turned out to be an effective tool with remarkably high spatial/temporal-resolution, 110,111 thanks to its energy tunability and high brilliance. Thus, the elusive contact mechanism between active photocatalyst and co-catalyst can be revealed via simultaneous spectro-microscopic determinations empowered by synchrotron-based advanced methods for investigating the structure-property-function relationships.…”

“…With the open architecture of the asynchronous DAQ system, data from the in situ reaction environment can be also captured and correlated with the XAS measurements para-meters, allowing for complex experimental schemes (Singh et al, 2018;Qu et al, 2021).…”
