Investigation of Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of MIG Welded Mild Steel Plates

Abstract: The purpose of this research study is to investigate the microstructural properties at Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) using Scanning Electron Microscope and to analyze the strength of the welded plates compared to parent metal plates. To carry this research work, mild steel plates (IS 2062) with butt joint using Metal Inert Gas (MIG) are considered. To know the effect on microstructure of the weld portion and strength compared to parent metal, three different thickness plates i.e. 5 mm, 6 mm and 8 mm are considered … Show more

“…Hence, the mechanical properties of this weld would have high ductility, elasticity, malleability and low brittleness, resilience, and stiffness with the application of the developed flux and this is in consonant with the work reported in Ref. [15]. The hardness in the base metal, when nano-flux powder was used is 187.99 BHN, when imported flux was used it was 143.36 BHN and when no flux was used it was 206.21 BHN.…”

“…Calabrese et al [8] conducted long-term corrosion monitoring of steel bars in concrete through cluster analysis and denoising. Some scholars [9][10][11][12] employed the AE to monitor the mechanical performance of basic components, and probed deep into the AE features of reinforced concrete beams, plates and columns during the damage process. Their studies mainly focus on band energy features, Gutenberg-Richter parameter (b-value), macro/micro evolution, and Kaiser effect.…”
