Investigation of mechanical and tribological properties of electroless Ni-P-B ternary coatings on steel

Abstract: The Ni-P-B ternary coating was prepared on steel specimens through electroless deposition and their microstructural and tribo-mechanical properties were investigated. Heat treatment of the as plated coating was carried out at 390 °C to realize its effect on microstructural, mechanical, tribological properties of the coating. Microstructural analysis was carried out to study phase structure, morphology, topography, and coating compositions by using XRD, FESEM, AFM, and EDS. Contact angle measurement was also pe… Show more

“…Therefore, nickel-based coatings were developed as an alternative to Cr coatings. Ni [3] and Ni-X(where X=P [4][5][6], B [7], W [8,9], Mo [10], Co [11], etc) coatings are widely used in industries including energy, aerospace, automobiles and chemical production due to their excellent mechanical properties and anti-corrosion resistance. Electrodeposition of these coatings is a popular technique due to the good cost effectiveness and easy handling of the process compared to chemical vapor deposition (CVD) [12,13], thermal spray [14,15] and thermal evaporation [16].…”
