Investigation of Landslides that Occurred in August on the Chengdu–Kunming Railway, Sichuan, China

Abstract: This paper reports on a large-scale landslide with a movement of 48 thousand m3 of soil and rock that occurred in Sichuan, China. This catastrophic landslide occurred in Aidai village, Ganluo County, at 12:44 on 14 August 2019, blocking a section of the railway between Lianghong station and Aidai station. This landslide resulted in 12 deaths and five people missing. This report describes the preliminary investigation, the rescue activity, topographic survey and analysis as well as the main predisposing and tri… Show more

“…Geological hazards also pose a significant threat to the lives of travelers [12][13][14][15]. Between 2008 and 2020, a series of landslides caused by earthquakes and localized continuous rainfall led to at least 18 fatalities, four severe injuries, and more than 120 injuries [15][16][17]. With global warming, the expected increase in extreme precipitation events may raise the probability of future railway disasters [18], and around 70% of newly occurring geological hazards extend beyond known areas [19].…”

“…Owing to the low frequency of earthquake, only mudslide, landslide and slump are considered. These geohazards caused high casualties and economic losses (Zheng et al 2019). At present, most risk assessment studies of geological disasters regard the geological bases as disaster-causing factors, and anthropic activities as exposure factors.…”

“…Family relationship and community are the basis of social bonds that form a stability spanning time and space [ 1 ] and gradually become important research topics of the humanities, social geography and other disciplines. Active communication among family members is conducive to avoiding dialogue barriers or understanding deviations that may be caused by generational gaps [ 2 ], which is conducive to personal health and is useful to improve learning, work and social adaptability [ 3 ].…”

“…In recent years, different scholars have discussed family relations from the perspectives of sociology, psychology and management, such as the intergenerational family relations of the elderly [ 4 , 5 , 6 ], parent–child relations [ 7 , 8 , 9 ] and the impact of the Internet and new media on traditional family relations [ 2 , 10 , 11 ]. From the perspective of human and social geography, family daily life is constructed under the political and economic constraints present at a given specific time and place, and its significance to individual growth and social progress changes over time [ 1 ]. It usually transfers or changes in the context of different events (such as major public health emergencies) [ 12 ].…”
