Investigation of kinetic, isotherm and adsorption efficacy of thorium by orange peel immobilized on calcium alginate

Abstract: In this research work the thorium uptake on immobilized protonated orange peel was studied in a batch system. The effects of effective parameters such as biosorbent dosage, initial metal ion concentration, and contact time on the biosorption of thorium were analyzed. The biosorption capacity of the immobilized orange peel for thorium at optimal conditions of initial pH 3.8, biosorbent dosage 8 g/L, and initial thorium concentration 170 mg/L was found to be 18.65 mg/g. According to the results of contact time, … Show more

“…The kinetics of the adsorption process provides essential information about reaction path and the rate of adsorbate. 43–46 The pseudo-first order model is one of the representative models. The pseudo-first order model equation is as follows: q t = q e (1 − e − kt )where, q e is equilibrium adsorption capacity (mg g −1 ), q t is the adsorption capacity (mg g −1 ) at time t and k is the pseudo-first order rate constant (h −1 ).…”

“…These elements are found in nature in combination and in combination with each other, and their separation due to very similar physical and chemical properties requires many costly processes. Therefore the separation and recovery of these elements from secondary sources have become very important 9 , 10 . To recover and remove ions of rare earth elements from aqueous solution and effluents different methods such as solvent extraction, chromatography, crystallization Partial, ion exchange, and adsorption are discussed 11 , 12 .…”
