Investigation of Ion Transport Parameters and Electrochemical Performance of Plasticized Biocompatible Chitosan-Based Proton Conducting Polymer Composite Electrolytes

Abstract: In this study, biopolymer composite electrolytes based on chitosan:ammonium iodide:Zn(II)-complex plasticized with glycerol were successfully prepared using the solution casting technique. Various electrical and electrochemical parameters of the biopolymer composite electrolytes’ films were evaluated prior to device application. The highest conducting plasticized membrane was found to have a conductivity of 1.17 × 10−4 S/cm. It is shown that the number density, mobility, and diffusion coefficient of cations an… Show more

“…Further understanding of the electrical properties of each electrolyte can be inspected by means of the electrical equivalent circuits (EECs) as shown in the impedance plots ( Figure 1 ). From the EECs modeling, the values of circuit elements can be identified where the expression of CPE impedance ( Z CPE ) is as follows [ 53 , 54 , 55 ]: …”

“…Beyond 175 cycles, E is clearly started to stabilize at an average value of 10.38 Wh/kg all over the 500 charge-discharge cycles. This fact clarifies that both NO3 − anions and NH4 + or H + cations in the polymer chains of the CS:MC blend move towards the electrode surface at an almost Negatively and positively charged ions are still employed to get used to the conduction pattern at the initial stage [84,85]. Table 4 shows an example of reported works related to the application of EDLC using various types of polymer electrolytes and materials.…”
