Kenyamanan taktil merupakan salah satu aspek yang menentukan kenyamanan pada pakaian secara keseluruhan. Dalam studi ini, performa kenyamanan taktil pada tiga variasi kain rajut single jersey yang mengandung serat biduri, yaitu: thermolite-biduri (TB) 50%:50%, micropolyester-biduri (MB) 50%:50%, dan excelbiduri (EB) 50%:50%, dibandingkan terhadap kain kapas (K) 100% dan poliester (PES) 100%. Kelima jenis kain tersebut juga divariasikan menjadi dua jenis kerapatan jeratan, yaitu rendah dan tinggi. Karakteristik kenyamanan taktil dievaluasi dengan menggunakan alat uji fabric touch tester (FTT). Hasil uji menunjukkan bahwa berdasarkan kriteria nilai primary sensory index (PSI), kain rajut dengan konstruksi kerapatan tinggi dapat menghasilkan nilai smoothness (kehalusan permukaan), softness (kelembutan), dan kenyamanan taktil total yang lebih baik dibanding kerapatan rendah. Kain rajut MB dengan komposisi campuran serat biduri 50% dan poliester microfiber 50% berpotensi menghasilkan karakteristik kenyamanan taktil dan softness yang lebih baik dibanding kain lainnya, termasuk kapas dan poliester 100%. Semua kain rajut biduri berkerapatan tinggi memiliki nilai warmness yang lebih tinggi daripada kain kapas dan poliester 100% sebagai pembanding. Kain rajut TB dengan komposisi campuran serat biduri 50% dan thermolite 50% memiliki nilai warmness yang paling baik dibandingkan dengan kain lainnya.

Denim fabrics are very preferred in recent years because it is easy to use and does not require ironing. But there is a limited study about the thermal and sensorial comfort of denim fabrics in the literature. The aim of this paper is to investigate the effect of the denim fabric composition on thermal comfort and sensorial comfort properties of denim fabrics. For this purpose, air permeability, thermal comfort, and water vapour permeability properties of 3/1 Z twill woven denim fabrics have been examined. Also, the Kawabata KES-FB4 system was used for the evaluation of the surface properties of fabric samples. It was found that the fabric with high surface roughness (F2) had a low thermal absorptivity value, and the fabric with low surface roughness (F3) had a high thermal absorptivity value. On the other hand, the lowest friction coefficient (MIU) was found in the lowest thickness value F4 coded fabric.

PurposeCurrent measurement methods for fabric comfort attributes generally suffer from either complicated testing processes and intricate measuring equipment or partial evaluation objectives and thus are difficult for effectively evaluating multidimensional human perceptions towards the comprehensive comfort of fabrics. The purpose of this paper is to develop a facile test device, namely fabric comfort tester, to achieve a comprehensive evaluation of human sensations in terms of sensorial, thermal and acoustic comfort in clothing.Design/methodology/approachThe prototype of the designed device was introduced, which enables a simultaneous test for multiple physical and mechanical properties of fabrics based on a force sensor and a set of infrared sensors via constructing multi-deformation states of the measured fabrics. Eleven measurement indices extracted from the measurement curves are defined and interpreted based on correlation analysis. A series of regression models are developed by relating the measurement indices with subjective evaluation results and validated by a set of independent samples.FindingsHuman perceptions of sensorial, thermal and acoustic comfort in clothing can be predicted by the measured physical indices and the designed test device with the developed regression models provides an alternative method to characterize the fabric comfort attributes effectively.Originality/valueThe work develops a novel device for objective evaluation of fabric comfort properties by a simultaneous test, integrating the mechanical measurement with thermal test and thereby filling the gap between the existing evaluation methods and practical requirements for the digitalization of fabric comfort in present textile and garment trade.
