Investigation of Corrosion Inhibition Efficiency of Some Synthesized Water Soluble Terpolymers on N-80 Steel in HCl, NaCl and Simulated Oil Well Water

Abstract: Five different water soluble terpolymers, namely polyvinyl alcohol-g-poly(acrylamidevinylsulfonate), polyvinyl alcohol-g-poly(acrylic acid-vinylsulfonate), polyvinyl alcohol-g-poly(acrylamide-vinyl benzene sulfonate), polyvinyl alcohol-g-poly(acrylic acid-vinyl benzene sulfonate) and polyvinyl alcohol-g-poly(vinylsulfonate-vinyl benzene sulfonate), have been designed, developed and tested for their efficacy to control N-80 steel corrosion in 10 % HCl, 3.5 % NaCl and simulated well water. The terpolymer charact… Show more

“…In the Nyquist plot obtained from samples FFC 1, 2 and 3 the same shape is observed: a semi-circle in the high region and an inclined/straight line in the low frequency regions, noticing that the shape of the semicircle is depressed in nature from high to medium frequency region, which is an indication of micro-roughness and other inhomogeneities of the working electrode during the reaction [12]. An inclined line due to diffusion of the mobile species into the electrode material (mass transfer control area) is observed in all cases.…”

“…Most importantly, ι-Carrageenan and κ-Carrageenan are also used in water-based paints due to their ability to prevent the settling of particles [6]. Recent reports state that the natural polymers have started to gain tremendous attention in corrosion inhibition due their availability, biocompatibility, non-toxicity and inexpensiveness [7,8]. Such biopolymers, like k-Carrageenan can form complexes with metals by several active O donors in its heterocyclic rings which eventually shield metal surface from contact to corrosive medium [9].…”

“…It has been observed that cocoa pod extract is more stable thermally and is very effective reducers of filtration loss at high temperatures. Geethanjali and Subhashini have conducted an investigation of corrosion inhibition efficiency of somesynthesized water soluble terpolymers on N-80 steel in HCl, NaCl and simulated oil well water. The results provided a preliminary validation of the inhibitor such that theycan be optimised and used for corrosion in oil and gas industries [9]. Zhang et al have reported an investigation of inhibition properties of sophorolipids for X65 steel corrosion in simulated oilfield produced water saturated with carbon dioxide.…”
