Investigation of Cloud ERP Adoption in the Healthcare Industry Through Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) Framework

Abstract: There is an accelerated migration from on-premise ERP to Cloud ERP systems in many industries, but this transition is relatively slow in the healthcare industry. To address this concern, we developed a research model based on Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) framework, and explored it in the healthcare industry through semi-structured interviews with IT managers and finance managers. We found noticeable differences between small-sized and large-sized healthcare organizations, as well as the perception… Show more

“…At the same time, we found that the existing literature has focused more on the specific digital technologies and a series of behaviors exhibited during the development and application process of the execution layer, for example, the inherent characteristics of systems such as business intelligence (Ana Marija Stjepi 'et al, 2020) [32], blockchain technology (Saleem Malik et al, 2021) [33], Cloud ERP (Damali, U et al, 2021) [34], and the application of infrastructure such as information systems (Sven Vegard Buer et al, 2020; Tzu Chieh Lin et al, 2020) [10,35]. However, unlike existing research, this study found that for the execution level, digital transformation may not necessarily help organizations maintain sustainable growth (Wei Haiying, 2021) [36] or increase the demand for highquality human and knowledge capital, promoting the improvement of capital structures (Sun Yuping et al, 2019) [37].…”

“…Nowadays, even process-related practices are heavily intertwined with technology applications, rendering this categorization less relevant. Previous research on SCMPs focuses on specific technologies such as ERP, EDI, RFID, and e-Business-related applications or investigates SCM concepts that are enabled by various technologies [9]. This fosters the basic view that SCMPs share a common critical enabler, namely technology, and their adoption can be studied by examining the underlying technologies.…”

“…In yet another study, Damali et al [116] deployed TOE framework to investigate influential characteristics in small healthcare companies. This study used a qualitative approach through semi-structured interviews with finance managers and IT managers.…”
