Investigation of chemically treated longitudinally oriented snake grass fiber-reinforced isophthallic polyester composites

Abstract: Snake grass fibers are subjected to various chemical surface modifications such as alkali, benzoyl peroxide, benzoyl chloride, potassium permanganate and stearic acid. These fibers are utilized to fabricate the longitudinal oriented fiberreinforced composites at 40% weight fraction of fiber. The mechanical properties of treated fiber composites are found to be higher than those of raw ones. Potassium permanganate treated fiber composites has optimum mechanical properties than other chemicals treated snake gras… Show more

“…These fibers were thoroughly washed with distilled water to remove the excess acid present in the fibers. Final washing was done with Sathishkumar water containing 1% acetic acid, and these fibers were dried in normal atmospheric temperature for 8 h and in a hot air oven at 70 C for 3 h. 28,29 Those fibers are used to prepare the NaOH treated SEFs-reinforced polyester composite (Na).…”

“…The fibers were extracted by using mechanical decorticator. 16 The outer skin material of the plant was removed and the fibers were separated. The extracted fibers were dried by using the natural convection process in the sun light for 2 days to remove the the water content in the fiber surface.…”
