Spinel-type ZnMn2O4 nanoparticles were synthesized via a simple and inexpensive microwave-assisted colloidal route. Structural studies by X-ray diffraction showed that a spinel crystal phase of ZnMn2O4 was obtained at a calcination temperature of 500 °C, which was confirmed by Raman and UV-vis characterizations. Spinel-type ZnMn2O4 nanoparticles with a size of 41 nm were identified by transmission electron microscopy. Pellet-type sensors were fabricated using ZnMn2O4 nanoparticles as sensing material. Sensing measurements were performed by exposing the sensor to different concentrations of propane or carbon monoxide at temperatures in the range from 100 to 300 °C. Measurements performed at an operating temperature of 300 °C revealed a good response to 500 ppm of propane and 300 ppm of carbon monoxide. Hence, ZnMn2O4 nanoparticles possess a promising potential in the gas sensors field.

In this study, the fabrication of ZnAl2O4/reduced graphene oxide nanocomposites is reported for the initial time. Two nanocomposites, ZnAl2O4/reduced graphene oxide‐50 and ZnAl2O4/reduced graphene oxide‐100, with different reduced graphene oxide contents (50 mg/ml and 100 mg/ml initial graphene oxide concentration respectively) were synthesized via a hydrothermal route; and characterized with the aid of suitable characterization and analytical techniques. For comparative purposes, two pure ZnAl2O4 samples were fabricated by citrate sol‐gel and urea combustion methods. The photocatalytic activity of the synthesized pure nanospinels and nanocomposites was studied for the degradation of rhodamine B dye under ultraviolet–A light irradiation. Compared to pure ZnAl2O4 nanoparticles, ZnAl2O4/reduced graphene oxide nanocomposites exhibited superior photocatalytic activity. The highest efficiency was observed for ZnAl2O4/reduced graphene oxide‐100 composite, where; full degradation of rhodamine B occurred after 45 min. The enhancements of the photocatalytic performance of ZnAl2O4/reduced graphene oxide composites were mainly attributed to unique electronic and surface properties of reduced graphene oxide.

Synthesis of Nano‐Porous Polyaniline and Investigation its Catalytic Effect on the Thermal Decomposition of Ammonium Perchlorate

Ammonium perchlorate (AP) is one of the most well‐known oxidizers of solid propellant. In this article, an intrinsic conductive polymer (ICP) is introduced as a green catalyst for thermal decomposition of AP. Activation energy of samples was defined by Kissinger method. A MATLAB code and Complementary method were used to derive the best model of samples decomposition reaction. It was revealed that application of nano‐porous polyaniline (NP‐PANi) changed the model of decomposition reaction of AP from(-ln1-α)14 to ()1-α-12 ; as a drastic raise was observed in the maximum reaction rate, in the range of 264‐430%, at different heating rates. reaction rate constant and pre‐exponential factor were also defined. Characteristic temperatures (TSADT and Tb) have been also determined in order to evaluate the thermal stability of process. Thermodynamic parameters have been also calculated, as the results confirmed the proper catalytic activity of NP‐PANI in AP decomposition process. The obtained results would be helpful for further application of ICPs as a noble family of green catalysts used for decomposition of energetic material.
