Investigation of biomass ash thermal decomposition by thermogravimetry using raw and artificial ashes

Abstract: The effects of alkali oxide (K 2 O), calcium oxide (CaO) and ratio of silicon oxide to aluminum oxide (SiO 2 /Al 2 O 3 ) on the thermal decomposition of biomass ashes and artificial ashes were examined by using thermogravimetric (TG) and derivative thermogravimetric (DTG) analysis. It was observed that mass losses due to mineral evolution from the ashes mainly occur during three temperature ranges: (a) low temperature, 70-250°C; (b) moderate temperature, 350-450°C; and (c) high temperature, 600-1100°C. The rat… Show more

“…Few studies deal with the decomposition behavior of biomass char ash. Li et al [46] studied the thermal decomposition of raw biomass ash and artificial mixtures representative for biomass ashes by TGA under air atmosphere. They divided the mass loss in three temperature stages: low temperature between 70 °C and 250 °C, moderate temperature between 350 °C and 450 °C and high temperature between 600 °C and 1100 °C.…”

“…Thermogravimetric (TG) analysis is one applicable lab‐scale approach and has been extensively adopted to investigate the thermal behaviors of solid fuels . The wastewater sprayed into the gasifier has continuous processes of moisture evaporation, constituent concentration, and chemical reactions.…”

“…In this work, we attempted to separate LA from formic acid in aqueous solution using a granular activated carbon (GAC). The predominant usage of GAC is to remove contaminants from solutions [12,13]. This is the first time that activated carbon is used to separate acid mixtures.…”
