The problem of indiscriminate waste disposal dates back to the earliest urban settlements in human society. The trend has been on the increase across many societies including Nigeria. This paper examined the nature and effect of waste generated in Nasarawa State, Nigeria. The study adopted the Reasoned Action Theory to explain the nature of waste generated in the study area. A cross-sectional survey design was adopted for the study. A sample of400 respondents was drawn through simple random, systematic sampling, clustered and purposive sampling techniques in the selection of Local Government Areas, electoral wards, towns/villages, main streets, houses, households and individuals. Primary data were generated through the use of questionnaire and in-depth interview. The questionnaire copies were analysed quantitatively using simple percentage while test frequency tables, mean and in-depth interview were unbundled using content analysis. The findings revealed that decomposed food items, empty sachet water packs and water bottles, empty engine oil gallons, used and unused drinking straw, sachets of all kinds, biscuit, condemned zincs and building materials were the solid wastes indiscriminately disposed in the study area. The study recommends that the Nasarawa State Waste Management Board should intensify the collection of solid wastes from the doorsteps of residents for appropriate recycling to mitigate the associated health and environmental hazards associated with the indiscriminate disposal of solid waste in the study area.

The common practice of frame selection is a simplified way without calculations of the strength and strain conditions. It is particularly popular in the design of small devices. In the case of granulation in a disc granulator, it is necessary to experimentally determine the correct parameters of the process. Therefore, the disc granulator must operate with a wide range of settings of the inclination of the granulator disc axis in relation to the ground. The use of the granulator for laboratory purposes requires also taking into account the loads resulting from its mobility. In response to this the FEM analysis was carried out as to the effect of the working disc position angle on stresses occurring in the laboratory disc granulators LDG300 and DG750 frame. Additionally, analyses of the stresses of the granulator's frames during their lifting and displacing were done. The analyses allowed the researchers to identify the main load that affects the frame design most markedly.

A B S T R A C TThe material selection process for producing a horizontal axis wind turbine blade for sustainable energy generation is a vital issue when using Nigeria as a case study. Due to the challenge faced with the low wind speed variations. However, this paper focuses on implementing MCDM for the material selection process for a suitable material for developing a horizontal wind turbine blade. This paper used a quantitative research approach using AHP and TOPSIS multi-criteria decision method. The study put into consideration the environmental conditions for the material selection process when designing the questionnaire. The authors extracted the data used for the selection process from the 130 research questionnaire distributed to materials engineers and renewable energy professionals. This research considered four alternatives that is, aluminum alloy, stainless steel, glass fiber, and mild steel to determine the best material for the wind turbine blade. Also, the model has four criteria and eight sub-criteria used for developing the pair-wise matrix and the performance score used for the ranking process of the alternatives. The result shows that a consistency index of 0.056 and a consistency ratio of 0.062 gotten via the AHP method is workable for material selection practice. 78%, 43%, 67%, and 25% are the performance scores for the four alternatives via the TOPSIS techniques. In conclusion, aluminum alloy is the best material, followed by glass fibre. Therefore, the decision-makers recommended aluminum alloy; hence, manufacturers should apply aluminum alloy to develop the wind turbine blade for sustainable energy generation.
