Investigation Into Determining the Humidity of Charge Used for Biological Air Treatment

Abstract: Microorganisms can reproduce only in such substrata which contain a certain amount of water and dissolved nutritious substances. Therefore, it is necessary to search for such charges that are distinguished by a large filtering surface and good humidity‐retaining properties. In experiments three types of materials ‐ wood, zeolite and foam ‐ were used as a charge for the biological air‐cleaning process. The charges were mixed up to maintain humidity necessary for the microorganisms in the biofilter as long as po… Show more

“…Out of it through the silicone hose 1 cm 3 of analysed specimen is infused into a clean medical syringe and later it is injected into the gas chromatograph vaporizer. Not less than 3 chromatograms are written down, according to which the analysed specimen concentrations are calculated (Baltrėnas and Zagorskis 2007a;Baltrėnas and Vaiškūnaitė 2003;Baltrėnas et al 2004). …”

“…After being weighed, the weighing bottle with the sample is placed into the drying cabinet and dried for 3 h at a temperature of 105±2 °C. The dried sample is weighed and its humidity is determined (Baltrėnas and Zagorskis 2007).…”

“…In the case of a high humidity of the charge anaerobic areas increasing its aerodynamic resistance emerge inside the filtering layer. This shortens the time of interaction of pollutants and microorganisms and at the same time reduces the treatment efficiency of the device (Baltrėnas and Zagorskis 2007).…”
