Investigation and properties of novel low melting glasses in the ternary system Sb2O3–PbO–Me2O3

Abstract: New glasses based on Sb 2 O 3 -PbO association have been synthesized and characterized. The limits for glass formation have been investigated in ternary systems encompassing trivalent oxides such as Al 2 O 3 , Ga 2 O 3 , and In 2 O 3 as the third component. Fast quenching is required to prevent melt crystallization, which results in thin samples. Chemical analysis shows a rather good agreement between nominal and analyzed compositions. Glass transition temperature, T g , ranges between 255 • C and 280 • C, dep… Show more

“…Traditionally, these glazes contain lead, which helps create a bright, vibrant finish [1][2][3]. The lead oxide (PbO) glass system is widely used for commercial purposes due to its high structural stability, low glass transfer temperature, and excellent heat and electrical properties [4][5][6]. It is also widely applied in glass ceramics, electronic devices, and thermal and mechanical sensors [7,8] because it efficiently lowers the melting point, improves wettability with oxides, and has high reflectance due to its high refractive index [9,10].…”
