Investigation about the copper adsorption on the chloropropylsilica gel surface modified with a nanostructured dendrimer DAB-Am-16: an analytical application for determination of copper in different samples

This paper describes the preparation of a nanostructured silsesquioxane, the cloropropilsilsesquioxano (S) that was organofunctionalised with the 4-amino-5-4(pyridyl)-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol (APTT), the material obtained of the functionalization was described as SA. The material SA was characterized by spectroscopy in the region of infrared (FTIR). After proper characterization, were carried studies on adsorption of metallic ions such as Cu 2+ , Ni 2+ and Cd 2+ in the active sites of SA. Different methods were studied in the adsorption of metal ions above: aqueous, ethanol 42% and ethanol 99%, determining the adsorption equilibrium time, which for both means and metals the maximum time averaged 35 minutes. After determining the adsorption equilibrium time of metal ions in each system, we determined the specific sorption capacity (Nf max ) through adsorption isotherms. The results suggest that the sorption of metal ions on DPPIPS occurs mainly by surface complexation and a Langmuir model allowed describing the sorption of the metal ions on SA. The excellent adsorptive capacity made possible the development of a method for determination of metal ions at trace level in real samples such as waste water, ethanol fuel and alcoholics beverages.

U(VI) species display limited adsorption onto sediment minerals and synthetic sorbents in pH <4 or pH >8 groundwater. In this work, magnetic mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MMSNs) with magnetite nanoparticle cores were functionalized with various organic molecules using post-synthetic methods. The functionalized MMSNs were characterized using N2 adsorption-desorption isotherms, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), (13)C cross polarization and magic angle spinning (CPMAS) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, and powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), which indicated that mesoporous silica (MCM-41) particles of 100-200nm formed around a core of magnetic iron oxide, and the functional groups were primarily grafted into the mesopores of ∼3.0nm in size. The functionalized MMSNs were effective for U removal from pH 3.5 and 9.6 artificial groundwater (AGW). Functionalized MMSNs removed U from the pH 3.5 AGW by as much as 6 orders of magnitude more than unfunctionalized nanoparticles or silica and had adsorption capacities as high as 38mg/g. They removed U from the pH 9.6 AGW as much as 4 orders of magnitude greater than silica and 2 orders of magnitude greater than the unfunctionalized nanoparticles with adsorption capacities as high as 133mg/g. These results provide an applied solution for treating U contamination that occurs at extreme pH environments and a scientific foundation for solving critical industrial issues related to environmental stewardship and nuclear power production.

In this work, the 3‐chloropropyl silica gel (SG) was prepared and organofunctionalized with 4‐amino‐5‐(4pyridyl)‐4H‐1,2,4‐triazole‐3‐thiol (SGA), that was characterized by infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and cyclic voltammetry (CV). The cupric ions (Cu2+) sorption on the silica functionalized surface (CuSGA) were performed in aqueous solution, at room temperature. It was performed a systematic study about voltammetric behavior of CuSGA, where the cyclic voltammogram of graphite paste electrode modified with CuSGA exhibited a single redox pair with formal potential (Eθ′)=0.30 V assigned to the process Cu+/Cu2+, (KCl 1.0 mol L−1, v=20 mV s−1). The graphite paste electrode modified with CuSGA was sensitive to different concentrations of ascorbic acid and then an analytical curve could be constructed, with a linear response of 6.0×10−6 to 9.0×10−5 mol L−1 (R=0.9988) and a relative standard deviation of ±2.5 % (n=3). The detection limit (3σ) and amperometric sensitivity were 4.78×10−6 mol L−1 and 115.96 mA/mol L−1, respectively.
