Investigating the mechanism of action of Danhong injection and its components against myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury

Abstract: Objective: The surgical treatment of myocardial infarction often causes myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury (MI/RI). Danhong injection (DHI) has curative effects on coronary heart disease and angina pectoris. However, its therapeutic effects on MI/RI still require further validation. This study aims to investigate the components involved and mechanism of action of DHI against MI/RI.Methods: Primary metabolites (PM) and secondary metabolites (SM) were isolated from DHI. We established a rat model of MI/RI by… Show more

“…As an energy-intensive organ, the heart normally supplies energy to maintain ion transport, calcium homeostasis, and sarcolemma functions mainly by fatty acids and carbohydrates, and at the same time, it also uses amino acids, lactic acid, and other energy supplies . The TCA cycle is one of the main pathways of energy metabolism in the body, and interference with the TCA cycle may imply decreased oxidative metabolism and impaired the mitochondrial respiratory chain in cardiomyocytes. , Therefore, when the TCA cycle is inhibited, ATP synthesis of cardiomyocytes is reduced, resulting in energy shortage and cell apoptosis, namely, the generation of cardiotoxicity. Among them, because the intermediate products of the TCA cycle only consist of amino acids, amino acids play a crucial role in myocardial energy metabolism .…”

“…As haemodynamics is intricately linked to cardiac circulation, the relationship, both ways, between heart disease and VLU has sparked widespread attention 6 . Chronic heart failure (CHF)is a common cardiovascular disease 7,8 . Some studies pinpointing it as a risk factor for VLU 9,10 .…”
