As access to smartphones and emerging technologies has become ubiquitous in our daily lives and in language learning, technology-mediated social interaction has become common in teaching and assessing L2 speaking. The changing ecology of L2 spoken interaction provides language educators and testers with opportunities for renewed test design and the gathering of context-sensitive validity evidence of interactive speaking assessment. First, I review the current research on interactive speaking assessment focusing on commonly used test formats and types of validity evidence. Second, I discuss recent research that reports the use of artificial intelligence and technologies in teaching and assessing speaking in order to understand how and what evidence of interactive speaking is elicited. Based on the discussion, I argue that it is critical to identify what features of interactive speaking are elicited depending on the types of technology-mediated interaction for valid assessment decisions in relation to intended uses. I further discuss opportunities and challenges for future research on test design and eliciting validity evidence of interactive speaking using technology-mediated interaction.

Intelligent digital assistants, such as products like Amazon's Alexa, are becoming more prolific and available as time progresses. This work reports on the process of developing applications, refered to by Alexa as 'skills, ' to support in-service professional development for teachers. The precedent of allowing Alexa to be utilized within the classroom, but not necessarily for teachers' skill development, is explored to contextualize the application of the technology as a professional development modality. Across the entire content development spectrum -spanning script writing to deployment and release -lessons are presented from experience to assist future teams embarking on the process in the hopes they are able to avoid repeating the problems encountered by this research team. Finally, a general discussion relating to the future of intelligent digital assistants and their applications to professional development is presented with the intent of provoking discussion and setting the stage for more rigorous investigations into the usability, efficacy, and results of this technology. Automação, conjunto de tecnologias com a capacidade de programar eventos em um ambiente, de modo a tornar automático o funcionamento de diversos equipamentos, por meio de sistemas integrados e da conexão à internet. Esta pesquisa objetivou demonstrar o conhecimento sobre a existência, uso, e a importância do uso por pessoa com deficiência física - usuário de cadeira de rodas. Foi possível observar que, 36,6% das pessoas que responderam ao questionário, afirmaram não saber como é empregado "o comando de voz" nos projetos de automação residencial, além de 33,3% dos participantes alegarem não conhecer ou nem mesmo terem ouvido falar sobre “smart home”, contudo, percebeu-se a “legalidade” das declarações, quando 87,9% afirmaram saber que, diversos segmentos e tipos de controle residencial como: câmeras, fechaduras, lâmpadas e tomadas inteligentes, ar condicionado, controles universais, podem ser controlados pelo comando de voz, fato que demonstra que a integralização das ferramentas de automação, ainda não é fortemente conhecida como o conceito geral. Concluiu-se que, os participantes possuem conhecimento geral sobre o que seja automação, uma percepção mais sucinta sobre automação residencial, desconhecendo o modo como se define e projeta-se tecnicamente as “smart home” e acreditam que a automação residencial pode contribuir facilitando o dia-a-dia da pessoa com deficiência física ou com mobilidade reduzida.
