Investigating the Effect of Using Waste Ultra-high-molecular-weight Polyethylene on the Fatigue Life of Asphalt Mixture

Abstract: One of the effective parameters in the occurrence of fatigue cracking distress is the asphalt binder properties used, which must be controlled by appropriate asphalt binder or additives. In this study, the effect of using Ultra-High-Molecular-Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) was investigated on the fatigue cracking potential of asphalt mixtures. Two types of aggregates, asphalt binder performance grade (PG) 64-16, and UHMWPE additive in two percent of the asphalt binder were used in this study, which were tested a… Show more

“…The cylinders were divided into four groups, each group of two cylinders being subjected to test with distinct loads; in the range of 250 kPa to 350 kPa, respectively. The time until failure for each briquette tested was determined by the number of applications of load that caused the sample to break [31]. The stress in the center of the briquette was calculated with Eq.…”

“…One is the substantial savings in terms of reduced costs, and the second is the cutting down of waste deposited in landfills. Thus, utilising waste plastic in asphalt modification must focus on enhancing the properties of pavement construction [9][10][11][12][13][14][15].…”

“…Thus, efficient recycling is the main solution to manage this waste issue, which is important in industrial engineering and scientific research. According to earlier studies [13][14][15][16][17][18], recycling is a crucial method that has several advantages, including saving natural resources, protecting the environment, and being cost effective. Consequently, it is important to consider the recycling industry as a vital industry in the current era.…”
