Investigating the compounding effects of environmental factors on ecosystem services relationships for Ecological Conservation Red Line areas

Abstract: Quantitative attribution of the relationships between ecosystem services (ES) is crucial for ecosystem management and the sustainable development of the ecological environment. However, analyses of determinants and their interactions of ES tradeoffs/synergies are generally inadequate, especially in Ecological Conservation Red Line (ECRL) areas that maintain national and regional ecological security. Soil conservation (SC), water yield (WY), and carbon sequestration (CS) were simulated in the Beijing ECRL areas… Show more

“…Carbon storage was represented by net primary productivity (NPP), which was calculated by the CASA model (Liu, Ren, et al, 2021; Zuo & Gao, 2021). The formula is as follows: italicNPPx=italicAPARx×εx Where : italicNPPx, italicAPARx, and εx represent the NPP, photosynthetic active radiation, and total solar radiation on pixel x, respectively.…”

“…NKEFAs undertake important ecological functions, such as water and soil conservation, windbreak sand fixation, and biodiversity maintenance (Pan et al, 2021). The difference in the leading ecological function determines the direction of development and protection of each NKEFA (Zuo and Gao, 2021). The water conservation type can realize precipitation retention, runoff regulation, soil desertification control and vegetation restoration.…”

“…Researchers have applied these methods to investigate grassland water conservation, windbreak and sand-fixing, and culture based on landscape patterns [24,29]. Developments in ecosystem services research have resulted in numerous researchers using the InVEST model to study how land use changes impact ecosystem services [26,28,30]. Grassland ecosystem services are closely related to human well-being [31].…”
