Investigating suspended-sediment transport in a shallow lake using a three-dimensional hydrodynamic and sediment model

Abstract: A three-dimensional, unstructured-grid hydrodynamic and suspended-sediment transport model was developed to simulate the temporal and spatial variations of suspended sediment and was applied to the subtropical subalpine Tsuei-Feng Lake (TFL) of Taiwan. The model was validated with measured water level and suspended-sediment concentration in 2009, 2010 and 2011. The overall model simulation results are in quantitative agreement with the observational data. The validated model was then applied to explore the mos… Show more

“…It has an altitude of 1850 m and a circumference of 600 m. It is shaped like a gourd, measuring 160 m wide at its widest point and 15 m at its narrowest point. The annual precipitation in the lake exceeds 3600 mm, and the mean annual temperature is approximately 13.4 • C. The period of full water level is from September to November, especially affected by typhoons, with an area of up to 25 ha and a depth of 7 m. During the dry season from January to April, a large area of grassland is exposed, making the lake appear as a large lake and a small lake, with a total area of 8 ha and a depth of 3 m [33]. As it is located in the Taiping Mountain National Forest Recreation Area (TMNFRA), there is a trail around TFL to provide tourists with recreation and sightseeing services.…”
