Investigating End-User Acceptance of Last-Mile Delivery by Autonomous Vehicles in the United States

Abstract: This paper investigates the end-user acceptance of last-mile delivery carried out by autonomous vehicles within the United States. A total of 296 participants were presented with information on this technology and then asked to complete a questionnaire on their perceptions to gauge their behavioral intention concerning acceptance. Structural equation modeling of the partial least squares flavor (PLS-SEM) was employed to analyze the collected data. The results indicated that the perceived usefulness of the tech… Show more

“…By some contrast, a survey by Kapser and Abdelrahman [23] revealed price to be the most important factor, followed by expected performance. By even further contrast, a survey by Saravanos et al [32] identified perceived usefulness as the most important factor, followed by social influence from the opinion held by others. Men were more likely than women to accept ADRs.…”

“…Consequently, future research might benefit from incorporating objective data where possible to corroborate selfreported perceptions. For our analysis, we relied on PLS-SEM, which is a common approach used in similarly designed studies (e.g., [26,[50][51][52][53][54]). However, it should be recognized that complementary analyses to SEM-PLS can be performed, such as AHP (e.g., [55]), fsQCA (e.g., [56]), and ANN (e.g., [57]), that could potentially add further insight to our findings.…”
