Show more

“…It was not possible isolating T. foetus in any of the collected samples. These results are similar to those recorded by Rocha et al (2009) and Mai et al (2013), who did not isolate T. foetus in bull preputial-wash samples. The non-isolation of the agent may due to the parasite's low concentration in the analyzed samples, since 3.0% of the samples were positive in PCR.…”

“…One way of minimizing these variations is to use a more sensitive technique, such as PCR, to confirm the results and/or identify the agent directly (Schulze et al 2006;Groff et al 2010). In addition, other factors such as the age of the animals (Pellegrin et al 1999 sanitary management of herds can also affect these differences (Mardones et al 2008;Rocha et al 2009;Mai et al 2013). With regard to the number of foci, despite the low prevalence observed, the agent was distributed among herds of this micro-region.…”

“…Another hypothesis is related to the different types of hygiene/sanitary management techniques used in the herd, bearing in mind that certain practices may influence the prevalence of BT (Rocha et al 2009;Viana and Zanini 2009), the use of shared pastures; loaning bulls (Mardones et al 2008;Rojo-Montejo et al 2010), the use of old bulls in reproductive management (Mendonza-Ibarra et al 2012), and the use of the bull pass in artificial insemination programs (Carvalho and Rodrigues 2006).…”
