Inverted roof insulation kits and their durability

Abstract: Abstract. In the paper there was analyzed a mechanism of loss of performance properties of inverted roof insulation kits resulted by moisture increase of the insulation layers. This problem is very important in such systems because the thermal insulation is placed above the waterproofing layer and is not protected against water absorption. Abovementioned problem is more and more common in the course of building's utilization in Polish climate conditions. Because inverted roof kits are based on extruded polysty… Show more

“…(Cai et al, 2019) also provided evidence that green roof was effective in reducing EUI and room temperature. (Borras et al, 2022) Among the three types of roof renovation, showed a decrease in energy consumption by 9% to 13% 2 Thermal and energy performance of green roof and cool roof: A comparison study in Shanghai area (He et al, 2020) Cool roof was superior in reducing room temperature, resulted in more significant electricity savings compared to green roof 3 Inverted roof insulation kits and their durability (Francke and Gerylo, 2018) The decrease in the quality of insulation material was caused by freeze-thaw cycles.…”

“…The heat loss of an inverted roof for different regions of Europe was described in [8,9]. The downside of this solution is the direct exposure of the insulation to the outdoor climate [10][11][12]. The risk of temperature decrease in the inner surface of the insulation below the dew point (resulting from the ingress of cold rainwater/melting snow going through the joints between the boards of thermal insulation) by specifying the ratio of the water undergoing the thermal insulation was studied in [13].…”
