Characteristic interface phenomena have been studied in zirconia toughened alumina (ZTA) using high-resolution electron microscopy. Glassy phases in grain triple junctions, microstructure of interfaces between martensitic twins, regularly spaced misfit dislocations at the interface between intragranular t-ZrO, and the A1,0, matrix and amorphization processes in the twin-terminating region (which can initiate grain-boundary microcracking) were observed by lattice plane imaging techniques.Mit Hilfe der hochauflosenden Elektronenmikroskopie wurden folgende charakteristische Grenzflachenphanomene in Zr0,-verstiirkter Al,O,-Keramik (zirconia toughened alumina, ZTA) untersucht : Glasige Phasen in Korngrenzentripelpunkten, die Mikrostruktur der Grenzflachen zwischen Martensitzwillingslamellen, regular angeordnete Misfitversetzungen in der Grenzflache zwischen intragranularem t-ZrO, und der umgebenden Al,O,-Matrix, Amorphisierungsprozesse im Bereich der Zwillings-Stirnfliichen (wodurch Korngrenzenmikroriflbildung eingeleitet werden kann).
