Inversion method to reconstruct fault transient traveling wave on overhead transmission lines

Abstract: Accurate acquisition for the transient traveling wave at the fault point on overhead transmission lines (OTLs) provides powerful technical supports on the fault diagnosis and insulation design of OTLs. In the study, a novel inversion method is proposed to obtain the transient traveling wave at the fault point. First, the inversion model is created by using the frequency-domain propagation characteristics and the inversion theory. The optimization object function of the distributed parameters is constructed in … Show more

“…In equation ( 1), the plane of the calibration board is assumed to be in the plane of the world coordinate Z = 0, where s is a scale factor; K is the intrinsic parameter matrix of the camera; and r 1 r 2 ½ and t are the rotation matrix and translation vector of the camera coordinate system, respectively, relative to the world coordinate system Equation (2) indicates that each homography matrix can provide two equations. The camera-intrinsic parameter matrix K contains five parameters.…”

“… 1 High-voltage overhead lines often cross complex terrain, such as mountains, rivers, and forests. 2 6 High-voltage transmission lines are also often subjected to bad weather, which causes great damage to power facilities and disables large areas of the power grid. 7 Because these adverse effects threaten the safe operation of the power system, methods for maintaining the security and reliability of power systems and for protecting the lives of power inspectors are urgently needed.…”

“…However, the above approach is discussed only for a radial system. Further, various authors have suggested, [13][14][15][16] travelling wave based fault detection and identification techniques using wavelets for transmission line protection. A DWT and entropy-based approach is suggested 17,18 to detect the lighting faults on the transmission line.…”

“…An algorithm based on some methods like 4 polarity comparison, a time synchronized pilot protection scheme and high-frequency unblocking is proposed in [3] for the protection of high-voltage transmission lines.A TW-based method is proposed in [4] for the protection of transmission lines with the presence of renewable energies. Wavelet transform (WT) is used in [5][6][7] for the extraction of TWs.…”
