Inverse scattering with phase retrieval based on indirect holography via synthesised plane-waves

Abstract: The aim of this study is to present a technique for object geometry retrieval using scattered field information based on phaseless acquisition, so that a scanning system can be implemented without the need of an expensive vector network analyser. The inverse scattering is accomplished through a two-step strategy that is powered thanks to the combination of the scattered signal with a synthesised reference wave. Thus, the phase is firstly recovered by considering the spectral properties of the mixed signal. Sec… Show more

“…Indirect holography, as described in [10,12], is based on acquiring the power of a signal coming from the combination of the field scattered by the object under test (OUT) E s and a reference signal E r . The amplitude and phase of the reference signal are supposed to be known.…”

“…The application of this technique (also known as indirect holography) to antenna measurement or inverse scattering problems has been accomplished by combining the radiated or scattered signal with a reference signal which is assumed to be known in amplitude and phase [7]. Further improvements have been carried out to use a synthetic wave [8][9][10] avoiding the characterization of the reference signal.…”

“…In general, this is achieved at the cost of some modifications in the measurement setup. Among these approaches, the ones based on the indirect holography or 'Leith-Upatnieks holography' [11] have been considerably successful in several fields including antenna measurement [12,13] and scattering problems [14]. In this holographic technique, the scattered field is combined with a reference signal that is phase shifted along the spatial domain.…”
