Invasive plants in flora of the Russian Far East: the checklist and comments

Abstract: The paper presents a checklist of the species invading the natural phytocenoses of the Far Eastern Federal District of Russia (FEFD) that includes 40.6 % of the state territory. It summarizes original data on distribution, habitats and inva sive ness status (IS) of 116 alien species belonging to 99 genera of 32 families. Eigh teen species are only beginning to invade natural cenoses and have IS 3; 76 species intensively invade natural cenoses and are listed in the group with IS 2. Trans former are represented … Show more

“…Previous checklists of vascular plants in Mongolia ( Gubanov 1996 ; Urgamal et al 2014 ), listed both native and non-native taxa; however, there were no specific remarks for non-native taxa. Recently, many researchers have published checklists of non-native plants, mainly in Europe and East Asia, for example, concerning China ( Xu et al 2012 ), Italy ( Galasso et al 2018 ), South Korea ( Korea National Arboretum 2021 ) as well as the Russian Far East and Siberia ( Ebel et al 2014 ; Vinogradova et al 2020 ). These works aim to increas awareness about invasive species and strengthen their biosecurity regulations.…”

“…Invasions of alien species are now taking place at unprecedented rates throughout the world (IPBES 2019), largely due to human activities. For example, 116 alien plant species have been reported in eastern Russia, likely associated with increased trade and transport connectivity (Vinogradova et al 2020). It should be noted that there are few reports of invasive plant species along Arctic roads in general (with some examples noted above), despite the many decades since their construction, or even from road-associated areas subject to disturbance by forest and tundra fires.…”
