Invasive Computing: An Overview

Abstract: A novel paradigm for designing and programming future parallel computing systems called invasive computing is proposed. The main idea and novelty of invasive computing is to introduce resource-aware programming support in the sense that a given program gets the ability to explore and dynamically spread its computations to neighbour processors in a phase called invasion, then to execute portions of code of high parallelism degree in parallel based on the available invasible region on a given multi-processor arc… Show more

“…Our implemented actor library, called actorX10 [20], enables to implement formal actor models as exemplified in Script 1. First, the actors belonging to an application are declared (line 3-6), and then the actor graph is built (line 18) by adding all actors (lines 21-23) and connecting their inputs and outputs to realize the channels (lines [25][26][27][28].…”

“…This article proposes Invasive Computing [25] as the key enabler for compositional timing analysis and execution of applications on MPSoCs with changing states of hardware resources. Invasive Computing enables to exclusively reserve hardware resources for applications at run time.…”

“…The invasive computing paradigm was originally introduced to be applied on embedded systems (see [42] for an overview) targeting to optimize dynamically scheduled resources by developing InvasIC-enabled hardware and software. The paradigm is currently subject of research in the InvasIC TCRC 89 1 with its main focus on embedded systems.…”
