As feed accounts for a significant proportion of a farm’s expenditure, animal nutrition is one of the key profit determinants. Attributed to the size-dependent market value, enhancing shrimps' growth is essential to maximize profit. Despite not being the best option, antibiotics are often used as growth-promoting agents in farming. Although this trend is less explicit in aquaculture, increasing production yield is paramount, especially when intensive aquafarming compromises animal growth and increases disease prevalence. However, the environmental and clinical pitfalls of indiscriminate antibiotic usage are surfacing. Fortunately, increasing evidence demonstrated probiotics as a safer, more sustainable, and environmental-friendly substitute for antibiotics. Nonetheless, most studies are observational, and the growth-promotion mechanisms of these agents are yet to be elucidated. In this light, this review aims to decipher the growth promotion mechanisms of probiotics in shrimps based on the primary works conducted. Evidently, probiotic treatment modulates the gut microbiome composition. The growth promotion effect of probiotics is partly mediated through the production of bioactive compounds such as short-chain fatty acids, vitamins, and polyamines. Besides, elevated digestive enzyme activities following the introduction of probiotics may help enhance digestibility and utilization. Histological changes at the hepatopancreas and intestine were evident. Furthermore, probiotics may reinforce the protective mechanisms in the gut and strengthen immune function. Treated shrimps demonstrate better appetite and exhibit superior metabolic and growth-related genes profile. Contrasting these recognized mechanisms with antibiotics helps construct the initial framework for designing high-quality probiotics for growth enhancement in farmed animals.

BACKGROUND: Dahlia tuber as the source of isolates in endophytic mold produces Inulinases. Inulinase is used in industry to produce inulin to become fructose through an enzymatic reaction. Fructose from natural substances constitutes low calories used as diet in diabetes mellitus type 2 patients. An important phase is done obtain the inulinase enzyme through mold isolation. AIM: The objective of this research was to isolate and identify the molecular of endophytic mold from red dahlia tuber which had the optimum inulinase activity. METHODS: Mold isolation was done through the stage of surface sterilization and purification. Mold isolation which had the highest inulinase activity was identified in a molecular using the polymerase chain reaction technique with the Internal transcribed spacers ITS region. DNA amplification used primer ITS 1 and ITS 4. RESULTS: The result of the study showed that there was five-mold isolation with the result of screening high inulinase activity found in UD3 (++), UD4 (++), and UD5 (+++), the value of inulinase enzyme activity of UD3 was 0.582716049, UD4 was 0.330864198, and UD5 was 0.685185185. The result of identifying UD5 molecular in eight DNA tapes was successfully amplified with 660 pb. The result of identifying molecular based on BLAST analysis found Schizophillum commune species CONCLUSION: It was found that the highest inulinase activity was the species S. commune, which added new variants of inulinase enzyme from red dahlia tuber which could be used by industry to yield fructose through an enzymatic reaction.

Inulinase enzyme (EC 3.2.1.80) is an enzyme capable of hydrolyzing inulin and is used as a catalyst in the production of High Fructose Syrup (HFS) and fructooligosaccharides (FOS). Inulinase enzymes can be produced by yeasts found in waste such as kepok banana peels (Musa acuminata x balbisiana). The aims of this study were to obtain the inulinase enzyme-producing yeast from kepok banana peels and to determine the effect of commercial inulin concentration and incubation time on enzyme activity. This research was conducted experimentally using a factorial completely randomized design with factors being inulin concentration of 1% (K1), 3% (K2) and 5% (K3) and incubation time of 6th (W1), 12th (W2), 18th (W3), and 24th hours (W4). The results showed that there were 4 isolates of inulinolytic yeasts obtained from kepok banana peels, namely YP1, YP2, YP4, and YP6. However, the most potential isolate to be used in inulinase production was YP2 isolate because it had the highest inulinolytic ratio value of 1.96. The results of inulinase activity showed that only inulin substrate with concentration of 5% (K3) had a significant or significant effect on inulinase production.
