Intrusion detection in RFID system using computational intelligence approach for underground mines

Abstract: The radio frequency identification technology (RFID) is commonly used for object tracking and monitoring. In this paper, we discuss a model for intrusion detection system based on RFID to identify the abnormal behavior of underground mines' toxic gases. This model consists of various types of sensor nodes that are integrated with RFID tag, which are deployed in the underground mines by using Zigbee protocol. It consists of coordinators, routers, and sensor nodes, according to different capabilities and the pro… Show more

“…In that sense, some decision-making systems have been designed using both Local Area Networks (LANs) for the monitoring of local air quality or generating an alarm while under a gas pollution event [ 35 , 36 ] and Wide Area Networks (WANs) for remote control and monitoring [ 37 , 38 , 39 ]. Many WSNs have been deployed to cover a broad range of applications such as precision agriculture [ 40 , 41 , 42 ], healthcare [ 43 , 44 , 45 ], military industry [ 46 , 47 , 48 ], and air quality monitoring [ 22 , 24 , 25 ]. The application fields for WSNs are becoming wider every day.…”

“…Radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology has found a broad range of applications in the mining sector. These applications include as intrusion detection system for identification of toxic gases in underground mines (Gautam and Om 2018), truck travel time measurement in an open-pit mine (Jung and Choi 2017;, vehicle proximity detection for collision prevention , mine operation management based on equipment and personnel tracking (Stolba et al 2013;Jung and Choi 2016;Binguo et al 2017), and tracking of explosives (Mahmad et al 2016). The idea of ore marking with RFID tags was first proposed at the Vale IncoÕs copper-nickel ore Frood-Stobie mine (Fiscor 2007).…”
