“…This study used the triaxial wireless IMU system (STT Ingeniera Y Sistemas, San Sebastián, Spain). This technology allows an objective assessment, which can improve the precision of locomotion measurement [9]. Data was collected while the elephants walked at their preferred walking speed at a range of 20 m. in a straight line, where the speed was more consistent and wireless signals from sensors might be detected most effectively.…”

“…Although the force plate systems are considered the gold standard for motion analysis to quantify limb lameness [24], they have some limitations, such as the complicated and expensive setting, which makes it hard for a large animal like an elephant to participate. To date, only wearable sensors have been developed that enable the triaxial motion sensor, incorporating an accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer, to provide three-dimensional linear accelerations, angular velocity, and magnetic field strength [9,12,22]. The purpose of this exploratory, observational study was to investigate how lameness affected the variability of gait variables of an elephant's gait by using an automated three-dimensional (3D) inertial measurement unit (IMU) with Wi-Fi sensors.…”
